Visiting the City formerly known as Moron

Learned a couple of things today while I was up here reconstructing a crash.  1)  The City of Taft was named "Moron" until it was renamed after President Taft in the 1920's.  2)  The population is about 9,000 people, and if you feel like grabbing a burger at the local hot-spot, that would be the place in the picture.

Oil, Oil Everywhere and it's all expensive

I'm up in Bakersfield and Taft on collision reconstructions.  During our drive, we went through the Elk Hills Oil Field where there are supposed to be over 400,000,000 barrels of oil.  About half of the pumps we saw were operating.  We passed a gas station right at the start of the fields, and gas was $4.59/gallon for regular unleaded.

Who's fine animation is that

Last year I had the opportunity to produce a forensic animation for the Law Offices of Garrison & McInnis in a large wrongful death case.

You can take a look at some of the animations used in trial here:

110 Degrees in Palm Springs

Sunday, the 27th I spent a lovely day in Palm Springs working a crash.  I don't know if there are really springs out there, all I found where sand dunes, and I took some of them home in my nose, ears, boots and total station.

After working in a harsh climate such as this, with blowing sand, I wipe down my machine with a soft-hair 3" paint brush before packing it away for next time.

Stanford's VectorMagic beats Adobe

So after shelling out big bucks for the full Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection, a few months later I find VectorMagic:  a free web application that turns a bitmap image into vector artwork.
